LJUBLJANA/SLOVENIA on the map

Ljubljana is situated in the heart of Slovenia, 298 metres above sea level.

Its convenient position, between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, makes it possible to leave Ljubljana on a spring morning, go skiing in the Alps and be swimming in the Adriatic later on in the afternoon.

How to get to LJUBLJANA?

Ljubljana lies at the junction of important travel routes leading from northern Europe to the Adriatic, and from western Europe to the East, the Balkans and the Middle East.

It is easily accessible: and is thus directly connected with all major European cities.

As the train brings you into the heart of the city centre, the major sights are only a stone's throw away.

Brnik, Ljubljana's airport, is located 23 kilometres to the north-west of the city centre, towards Gorenjska. It is connected, with regular and charter flights, to numerous cities in Europe and other continents.

How to get to "Jozef Stefan International Postgraduate School" / "Jozef Stefan Institute" by local transportation?

In Ljubljana the local transportation is performed by busses (Ljubljanski potniski promet). The fee (300 SIT, no money return) can be paid with cash at the entrance at the front door or with tokens (190 SIT), which can be bought in tobacco shops and post offices. You can also buy "Ljubljana Tourist Card", which costs 3000 SIT and is valid 72 hours: with this card you have free access to all local buses, free bike-renting, free entrance to some museums, and you also have many other discounts.

There is a bus stop in front of main bus station. Take bus number 9, direction Trnovo, take off on second bus stop (in front of the book store) and change to the line No. 1 (direction Mestni log) or 6 (direction Dolgi most). We recommend to take bus No. 1, because it stops in front of the entrance to Jozef Stefan Institute on Jadranska cesta (take off at 5th bus stop). Bus No.6 stops (5th bus stop) on Trzaska cesta about 5 minutes walking distance from the Institute (cross the main street at traffic lights and walk along Jadranska cesta).
